I guess I can add a little more about this nightmare pregnancy. I have been on TPN for 6 weeks now. I have been doing very well. I even gained some weight. I had a small diet that was working for me too.
However, (I always have a however) at 14 weeks (which was labor day weekend) I started having really bad chest and back pains, could not catch my breath, a bad cough, and chills. So back to the hospital we go.
They ran several test at the hospital, and my luck came up with nothing. I was running a low grade fever while there and my heart rate was 130 to 140 (normal is 60 to 80) (a fetal heart rate is usually 150 to 160) So my and the baby’s heart rate was close together. Not good. They admitted me.
Sunday night they decided to go ahead a take my central line out and run test on it. The doctors were treating me for some kind of infection, what, they did not know. I felt much better once the central line was taken out, so I thought that was all it was to my illness. Wishful thinking…
Tuesday morning my doctor came in and told me that I did have an infection in my blood stream and they would have to continue treating me for 6 to 7 days. They have not finished all the blood cultures that they are “growing” to find the source of the infections, we should know more about that on Wednesday or Thursday. An infectious disease doctor is now seeing me.
I will be here all week for sure, maybe longer. My fever has gone down and is staying down. My heart rate is down to 110, which is better. I feel a lot better I just can’t seem to eat anything. So this is another hurdle I am going to have to jump within the next couple of days, or they will have to put another central line in me again.
